A zoning verification letter is an official document that provides general zoning information about a property.  It is often required by purchasers or lenders when commercial property is sold or refinanced.

If you merely need to verify the current zoning of a property, please visit our Interactive Zoning Map to determine the Zoning District.

If you are a resident or local business and are unsure if you require a zoning verification letter, please contact the Development Services Department (planning@oswegoil.orgbefore completing the zoning verification request form.

REQUIREMENTS TO REQUEST A ZONING VERIFICATION LETTER:

  • Complete the Zoning Verification Letter Request Form
  • $175.00 fee must be paid at the time of form submission. A credit/debit card convenience fee of 3.5% is added.
  • Preparation of the letter will not begin until full payment has been received.
  • The fee is non-refundable should the zoning verification request be withdrawn.
  • Any changes or additions to the request will constitute a new request, requiring an additional $175.00 fee to be paid.
  • If a right-of-way bisects the subject property, the request may be considered as two separate requests at staff’s discretion, and a second form and fee would be required prior to issuing the letter.

Zoning verification requests are typically processed within fifteen (15) business days.

Upon completion, the Village will place the letter on Village letterhead and return a signed PDF copy of the letter to the requester typically via email.

Please note: Zoning verification is not intended to provide any outstanding building and/or code enforcement violations, building permits, certificates of occupancy, inspection reports, site plans, or other planning or building documents. Such requests should be made via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request online.

Please contact the Development Services Department at planning@oswegoil.org with any questions.
