Oswego Police Arrest Oswego Man for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm

Charges: Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon X6 (Class 4 Felony); Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (Class 4 Felony); Possession of Firearm without Valid FOID Card (Class A Misdemeanor)

Oswego Police arrested Eric S. BONNES, of Oswego, after receiving a report that a man had fired a gun in the 200 block of Northampton Drive on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

At approximately 6:39 p.m., on May 5, Oswego Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Northampton Dr. for a male that may have fired a gun while walking in the street. Upon arrival, officers quickly located a man matching the male’s description holding a firearm in his hand. Police immediately took the man, identified as Eric Bonnes, into custody without incident. He was arrested and transported to the Oswego Police Department for processing. Bonnes is alleged to have discharged a firearm into the air in a residential neighborhood while others were present in the area. He additionally does not have a valid firearms owner’s identification card or concealed carry license. The Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office subsequently approved six felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one felony count of reckless discharge of a firearm. He was also charged with a misdemeanor for possession of a firearm without a valid firearms owner’s identification card (FOID). No one was injured in the incident.

Bonnes was transported to the Kendall County Jail to await a pre-trial hearing on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
