ECO Commission

Vision, Objectives, and Guiding Principles

Vision Statement
We envision our community being a model “Green Community” recognized nationally for our:

  • Citizens who practice and promote environmental stewardship
  • Educational programs on environmental issues
  • Conservation of resources including land, air, water, plants and wildlife

Objectives
In support of the ECO Committee Vision stated above, we, the ECO Committee, have adopted the following long-term objectives: Educate the public on environmental issues affecting them as individuals and our community as a whole, and through that education process obtain their involvement in our activities.

Encourage and actively work with the Village to:

  • Increase the amount of space used for public parks and natural habitat that can be made available for public enjoyment
  • Improve how the generation of waste is managed, including increasing the type and amount of waste recycled
  • Institute sustainable development, balance growth, and develop a “green” infrastructure
  • Increase water conservation and watershed quality
  • Increase the type and amount of biodiversity and to improve habitat by increasing the planting of native flora.

Guiding Principles
These Principles shall be used by the ECO Committee to guide them in the management of their programs:

  • Build cooperative partnerships with governmental agencies, environmental groups, educational organizations, and other community groups;
  • Balance the complex interrelations between environmental, economics, and personal needs;
  • Research and educate ourselves to obtain practical solutions for environmental issues; AND,
  • Recognize that protection of our natural assets is an investment in the economic health of our community and in the value of our private property.

As our community grows and continues to mature, we will revisit and revise these as needed. The above were adopted in May 2005 and are current.
