The function of the 175th Anniversary Celebration Commission is to plan, develop, implement, and coordinate events, activities and artifacts for the 2008 celebration of the Village of Oswego’s 175th Anniversary for the settlers’ first establishment of the community in 1833.

The function of the Cultural Arts Commission is to initiate, sponsor, organize, and promote cultural and artistic programs and services for the enrichment and enjoyment of the Oswego community. Through this Commission, the Village of Oswego seeks to build awareness of and participation in all the arts – visual, performing, and literary as well as continually add to the established public art collection.
The function of the Environmentally Conscious Oswego (ECO) Commission is to protect and improve today’s environment for the future by providing education to the Community on environmental issues, by educating and involving Oswego’s leadership on environmental issues and opportunities, by increasing conservation practices through hands-on activities, and by reviewing Village environmental ordinances and contracts in order to suggest areas of improvement.

The function of the Historic Preservation Commission is to preserve and enhance Oswego’s unique historic character by informing the community of the positive benefits of preservation, by enlisting public support and participation in the historic preservation process, by identifying significant sites that represent preservation opportunities, and by implementing a review process for historic preservation.

The Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals is appointed by the Village Board to serve as an advisory body to the Village Board. The Plan Commission is charged with the responsibility for reviewing a variety of residential, commercial and industrial proposals as they relate to the comprehensive plan and long-range development of the total community. The Zoning Board is charged with the responsibility for reviewing proposed variations or deviations from the Village’s Zoning Ordinance.
The Oswego Police Commission serves as the reviewing and recommending body to the Village Board on matters of hiring, disciplining and termination of sworn police personnel.
The function of the Senior Advisory Commission is to educate the senior population on programs and services available to them; encourage seniors to be actively involved in the community and address senior topics such as housing, transportation, security, safety, and other issues that will ensure the highest quality of life possible.

The function of the Building and Zoning Committee is to discuss current and future economic business strategies for maintaining a vital balance of business and residential tax bases.
The function of the Community Development Committee (CDC) is to discuss and provide additional input and direction to Staff and/or the applicant regarding various development proposals submitted to the Village’s Community Development Department. The CDC provides their input prior to formal Plan Commission and Village Board consideration.
The function of the Extraordinary Oswegoan Committee is to recognize Oswego citizens who have made a significant contribution to their community. Outstanding individuals are recognized in the following categories: volunteers, K-8 students, high school students, senior citizens, couples, patriotic volunteers, educators, male/female bosses, police/fire public servants, Village employees, and village pride awards.
The function of the Finance and Technology Committee is to discuss and review the annual budget and fiscal needs to most efficiently serve the citizens of Oswego. The Village Board approves the budget and any changes that may significantly impact an approved budget.
The function of the Fireworks Committee is to seek funds and corporate sponsors for the Village of Oswego’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show.
The function of the Legislation and Policy Committee is to discuss the creation of or amendment to proposed or existing ordinances which govern the Village of Oswego. All recommended additions/changes to legislation are considered by the Village Board for approval.
The function of the Public Safety Committee is to review Village concerns relating to safety. The Public Safety Committee meets to discuss presented issues and then offers suggestions to the Village Board to resolve these concerns by enacting ordinances, as necessary.
The function of the Public Works Committee is to discuss water and sewer utility matters within the current infrastructure system as well as the planned expansion needs of the Village. Street maintenance needs are also reviewed by this committee, and recommendations for both utility and street issues may be considered by the Village Board.
The Women’s Topics Committee is committed to providing educational programs for women of all ages within our community, to encourage active participation within our community, and actively work together to support one another in the multitude of responsibilities that women face today.
The Youth Committee is committed to the youth of our community by planning fun and exciting events for them to attend. The Youth Committee is also committed to raising awareness for different charitable organizations in our area.
