BLIZZARD UPDATE: Garbage delayed, parking ban in effect
Garbage delayed, parking ban in effect
Winter Storm Bruce hits Oswego as a blizzard
An early winter storm has struck the Village of Oswego, affecting several Village operations.
As of 8 p.m. Sunday night, crews were plowing roads with the primary goal of keeping roads open and passable for emergency vehicles. Residents are encouraged to stay off the roads as conditions deteriorate to keep themselves and first responders safe.
Groot has canceled garbage collection for Monday, Nov. 26. Garbage collection will be delayed by one day this week throughout the Village.
Parking restrictions are in effect. Parking is prohibited on streets after 1 inch of snowfall in the downtown and 2 inches of snowfall throughout the rest of the Village to allow plows to get through. Move your car to avoid tickets or tow. Parking is allowed again once streets are clear from curb to curb.
THIS IS HEAVY, WET SNOW. PLEASE TAKE PRECAUTIONS WHEN SHOVELING. Each year, approximately 100 people in the U.S. die from heart attacks that occur during snow shoveling. Take breaks, work slowly, and, if you have a heart condition or other medical issue, please ask for help from a neighbor.
Please clear sidewalks and dig out hydrants to ensure that fire crews can access them in an emergency. Remember that shoveling or blowing snow into the street is prohibited.
Plows will need to make multiple passes during and after this snow storm clear streets to the curb. If you prefer to shovel only once, you may wish to wait until streets are cleared curb to curb.
Leaf collection has been temporarily suspended as crews switch gears to snow operations. Crews have completed two rounds of leaf collection and were working on the third and final collection in Zone A on Sunday morning before switching equipment on trucks for snow plowing. Crews plan to resume leaf collection for any remaining homes in Zone A, and for a third and final round in Zones B and C, once the snow melts from the leaves.
