How to Help Houston's Hurricane Recovery
Hurricane Harvey has caused catastrophic flooding in Houston, Texas, and its neighboring communities, and the Village of Oswego is proud to have so many residents who have expressed a desire to generously give in this time of need. To help residents give responsibly to disaster relief and ensure donations are meeting the real-time needs of Harvey victims, the Village offers the following resources:
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has called for assistance, and the City of Houston is coordinating individual volunteers, groups of volunteers, corporate and invidivual donations, and medical volunteers directly through the phone numbers and emails listed on their website: http://www.houstontx.gov/ If you are able to give your talents and resources, these coordinated efforts are the most effective in getting assistance where it is most needed.
Thank you to Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico and his team for maintaining this constantly updated list of disaster needs and information. When communities work together to come to the aid of others, we all benefit.
Finally, while generous, donation of items, such as clothing and toys, are often wasted because they require workers to sort through them and take up valuable space used for other lifesaving supplies.
To donate directly to Houston efforts by credit card, go to www.ghcf.org. Checks or money orders may be mailed to the Greater Houston Community Foundation, 5120 Woodway Drive, Suite 6000, Houston, TX 77056.
Thank you for your compassion and generosity.
