Environmental Mosquito Management Program
The Village of Oswego has again contracted with Clarke to provide mosquito control services in the Village. This comprehensive program calls for Clarke to provide surveillance of the mosquito population, larval control and adult mosquito control to help minimize mosquito populations to prevent nuisance mosquitoes and help suppress any outbreaks of West Nile Virus. This program closely follows the recommendations of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and uses products registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
In addition, community education is a key part of mosquito control. Residents should tip and toss any standing water in birdbaths, baby pools or downspout drains every 2-3 days to prevent mosquito larvae from developing. When going outdoors, long shirts, long pants and DEET-based mosquito repellent is recommended. Also try to avoid going out at dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active.
“By implementing this integrated program, the Village of Oswego is taking a proactive approach to mosquito control and helping residents enjoy their time outdoors with less worry,” said Jack Thennisch, Control Consultant. “This comprehensive program will help eliminate the number of mosquitoes in the area and make the Village a better place to live.”
Village residents wishing to be placed on a call notification list regarding treatments can call Clarke’s Mosquito Hotline at: 800-942-2555. To learn more about the Village’s program visit www.Clarke.com.
