The Village of Oswego is located 50 miles southwest of Chicago and is well situated at the southern end of the Fox River Valley and is the largest community in Kendall County, Illinois. The Economic Development Department is charged with encouraging the growth of retail, office, restaurants, and industrial businesses. It is also responsible to assist existing businesses remain in business and to continue to flourish.
Oswego was recently selected to CNNMoney.com’s 2011 Best Places to Live annual survey. Kendall County was recognized in a June 16, 2010 article by CNNMoney.com as the fastest growing county in the United States. Oswego, the largest community in the county, has seen a large percentage of that growth. In a 2009 article, CNNMoney.com recognized Kendall County as the number three county in the United States for job growth. The growth in population has brought growth in retailers, big box stores, and restaurants to Oswego. There is currently over 2.5 million square feet of occupied national retail space along the Route 34 corridor in Oswego with opportunities for additional growth along this corridor and additional corridors within the community.
The Village currently has two industrial parks with infrastructure in place and sites ready for development. A third industrial area is available for future development within close proximity to the Caterpillar facility.
The Village recently completed a Downtown Plan to incorporate two recent office/retail buildings that were constructed and assist and guide the Village as it redevelops future sites in the downtown.
